How to Keep Your Paintball Mask From Fogging?

Almost all masks worn during a paintball battle create fog when moisture condenses, causes for a blurred vision. The moisture condenses when the player gets into an intensive sweating cause to release a lot of moisture in the face. Or the other scenario is that your face is even warmer than the temperature outside.  Here are some ways of preventing your mask to get fog.

Mask’s lenses often get fog when there is an occurrence of moisture condensation but with the Anti-fog Spray, it prevents the moisture to condense. All you have to do is just spray a little amount on the lenses of your mask and bingo, the fog will no longer develop.

Though there are several feedbacks still it is the less expensive remedy for the fog problem. Warning: It is not as effective during hot and humid days.

The second option is to have a mask fan. There are selected upgraded brands of the mask that already had built-in fans.  It was designed to release air, causing the moisture to evaporate thus, preventing the lenses to get fog. It is often placed above the goggles.

Considerably it is really effective in preventing fog to develop but it is quite expensive and an extra battery is needed.  This also produces an unwanted sound and is susceptible to breakage. Still, it considers working well even on hotter days.

Last is to try investing in thermal or dual lenses. These were designed having two-layered lenses featuring a thin air-filled space. Through that space, it provides the barrier among the air in your face and the air coming from the outside. This enables the lenses to be of the same temperature with the face of the player wearing it which causes less possibility of moisture to condense.

The reminder does not play a paintball game without any protective mask cause it is quite dangerous to have a broken face.

What Is Paintball Mask Fog?

It is due to the moisture that condenses on the lens and develops fog. That moisture either comes from the face of the player or from the humid air on the outside. As the humid air arises in the lens and gets cool that is the time that the condensation happens and results in fog.

Why Do Paintball Masks Fog?

It is, indeed disappointing when you are in the middle of your game, something interrupted you unexpectedly. One that can be avoided, only if you prepared beforehand. There are reasons why these predicaments happen.

  1. Have you ever observed when you exhale on cold days, you could see a cloudy smoke? Well, that is your breath turns into condensed moisture. It comes out of your mouth hot and humid and when it reaches a cold surface turns into moisture. When you wear a mask and breathe, the warm air accumulates in the lens and fogs develop since the temperature in the lens is colder. Thus, condensation happens.
  2. On the contrary, during hot and humid days, you sweat a lot to allow your body to cool down. This is a normal mechanism of the body, especially when we are moving a lot. When you sweat, it evaporates and goes into the cooler lens and gathers to make fog. So, proper ventilation helps a lot. It allows the hot and humid air inside to escape without landing into the lens.

What Is Paintball?

It was developed mainly as a recreation in 1981, and it has become a competitive sport nowadays. Its goal is to get rid of the opponents from playing,  by hitting them with spherical dye-filled gelatin capsules, which are called paintballs. They contain water-soluble and non-toxic substances. Thus, making it totally safe when they hit a person, though still hurts a little.

Furthermore, they break upon contact and releases paint. This intensive, but fun sport requires a few pieces of equipment, such includes a mask. Its ultimate mission is to completely cover the face, well obviously, for protection. Some of it includes throat guards, as well. It may safeguard you but it may also be a barrier to your triumph when mist accumulates on it. If you want to buy a paintball gun. Sometimes called goggles, they come with lenses that are made up of Lexan and polycarbonate materials. Manufacturers make them in different shapes. So players have a variety of choices, depending on their needs and preferences.

Kinds Of Mask Lenses

There are two kinds for this kind of protective goggles. One is the single pane and the other one is the thermal or dual pane.

  • The Single pane is made up of Lexan materials that have an anti-fog coating.
  • Whereas, the dual-pane is made up of polycarbonate materials for durability purposes, thus preventing shattering and breakage.

Usually, both are resistant to scratches and have an anti-glare coating. So before getting one or two for your paintball game needs, consider this important question below.

Conclusion

Fogging on paintball goggles is quite a trouble for paintball players. It may cause danger, instead of pleasure. Whichever options you choose, remember one basic rule. Always wear the mask and keep your lenses clean and dry before speeding into the battlefield. Ultimately, be safe while having fun!
